Latest Updates from Our Project:

ALL STRETCH GOALS UNLOCKED!
almost 4 years ago – Thu, May 21, 2020 at 07:17:15 PM

Hi everyone,

I am SO excited to announce that we have recently smashed ALL SEVEN stretch goals! You now have the choice between the original 'sunset orange' cover or the recently announced 'arctic blue' cover for your printed book! I will be in touch at the end of the project to confirm your choice.

This really is an incredible achievement for the project, and wouldn't have been possible without the support you have given. The paper stock and cover finishes are going to be premium quality, and on top of that you will also receive four new playable races and a unique campaign builder alongside your book. But, just because we have hit all of our stretch goal targets it doesn't mean we are done. Absolutely not.

With any further funds that are invested into Roll & Play, I will be looking at new ways to enhance the existing product. For example, you may have seen in Update #6 that I have commissioned an illustrator to draw our playable races. This was not linked to the original stretch goals, but this was something that I really wanted to do to make the project even better, and it became possible because of the speed at which we blasted through the previous stretch goals.

Fulfilment is my biggest priority, so any enhancements we do make will be to the overall quality of the project rather than increasing the content, as all of the content has been carefully planned to fit to an achievable schedule.

Stay tuned for exciting updates in the coming weeks including a competition (which I know you are going to love), and the reveal of the chosen four playable races! Don't forget, you still have until the 24th May to throw your playable race ideas into the ring, we have had some great suggestions so far.

All the best, speak soon,

Sam.

Four Playable Races, Sketchgoblin Update!
almost 4 years ago – Wed, May 20, 2020 at 04:35:27 PM

Hi everyone, I hope you're keeping safe and well.

As we unlocked the Playable Races stretch goal, you will now receive four BRAND NEW playable races (shortly after you receive your Roll & Play book) which you can use in your tabletop roleplaying campaigns. I have a few ideas in mind, but I wanted to open it out to the wider community. Have you got any ideas for a new kick-ass race that you would love to see fully realised? Have you always dreamed of playing as a humanoid chicken-man on the tabletop to drive your GM crazy? Now's your chance! Leave a comment with your idea on this update by 24TH MAY 2020, that's when I'll go through all of the ideas and lock in the final four.

Talking of playable races, I have some very exciting news – I have commissioned the incredibly talented character artist Sketchgoblin to bring the four playable races to life! For those of you that haven't seen his brilliant work before, please check out his Instagram here. I have followed Sketchgoblin for a long time and I believe his slick, graphic style will compliment the look and feel of the Roll & Play project really well. I am positive you will agree! I can't wait to see what he creates.

When the illustrations are complete, I will introduce the final four races to all backers. These will be part of a PDF supplement to Roll & Play which all backers will be sent after the delivery of the books.

Put your 'Cap of Thinking' on, and get brainstorming! I'm so excited to read all of your ideas.

Thanks everyone, have a great week,

Sam.

End of Week 1 (With Behind-the-Scenes Content!)
almost 4 years ago – Mon, May 18, 2020 at 05:17:26 PM

Hi everyone,

Roll & Play has just come to the end of its first week, and the project has had an incredible response so far – thank all of you for being on-board. At the end of Week 1 we are 920% funded with 365 backers! We also recently unlocked the Campaign Builder stretch goal (check out the Stretch Goal section for more details), and revealed an additional cover option as a new stretch goal.

Now, it's time for some behind-the-scenes footage! I wanted to share with you some of my design process for the title on the front cover. I almost always start off with a doodle in one of my sketchbooks, then (once I've chosen a doodle to move forward with) I sketch the same doodle digitally. From there, it's a case of tracing over the sketch with Adobe Illustrator to make it consistent, choosing colours, and hey presto! Here is a video of how the Roll & Play title developed, from the initial sketch to the final digital title.

I also want to share this article written by Roll & Play backer JohnHQLD: https://www.johnhqld.com/roll-play-the-game-masters-tabletop-toolkit/. I was really honoured that John took the time to write it, and I thought it was a great article which summarises the project really well. If you haven't taken a look already, check it out! Have you seen Roll & Play featured anywhere else? Have you featured Roll & Play on your blog? Please drop me an email and let me know! I would love to read about how other people have reacted to the project.

Did you know we have just launched our Twitter account? Please do follow along with the project's development there, as well as on our Instagram and Facebook pages. We have an exciting competition launching soon (I will give more details in a future update) but you're going to need to be following the project on at least one of the channels to enter, so why not get ahead of everyone else?

Thanks again for your support everyone, have a brilliant week!

All the best,

Sam.

ALL Beholder pledges taken, and a colourful NEW stretch goal added
almost 4 years ago – Fri, May 15, 2020 at 07:43:33 AM

Hi everyone,

Thank you all once again for your support! We are now well on our way to 700% funding, which is incredible. ALL 25 Beholder level pledges have been taken, meaning there are just 4 Producer spots left at Mind Flayer level. I will be in touch with the producers soon to gather your generator ideas for the 10 additional pages, and the generator cards – so start brainstorming! What would help you during your tabletop RPG? Is there a mechanic you always struggle to improvise? Are there any non-fantasy generators that you'd like to see?

We are SO CLOSE to unlocking the Campaign Builder stretch goal, which kicks in at the £7000 mark. This will be an easy-to-use PDF, and help you to develop new settings, villains and quests for your players. The Campaign Builder will be super-helpful when you are planning a new campaign!

I wanted to announce an exciting new stretch goal which I always hoped I'd be able to do, but never imagined we'd come close to making it a reality! If we hit £12000, all backers who have pledged for physical books will have the choice between the classic sunset cover, or the brand new arctic cover. And yes, if you choose the Griffon's Hoard pledge level, you can decide which cover each of your 3 books will have! The reason this is a slightly higher stretch goal is due to the fact we will have to have a second print run for these covers. FYI, the eBook will only be available with the original sunset cover to keep the fulfilment process manageable.

We're on Facebook and Instagram, so why not reach out and let me know what you think of the project so far!

All the best, speak soon,

Sam.

400% Funded! 150 Backers! Stretch Goal Smashed!
almost 4 years ago – Thu, May 14, 2020 at 10:55:42 AM

Hi everyone,

Well, another amazing day for Roll & Play has almost come to an end (or is just beginning, depending on where you live). We are now over 400% funded and over 150 backers have pledged their support. I have gained the Stunned condition... Thank you all so, so much for your support!

Today we smashed another stretch goal, Playable Races. This means as a follow-up to Roll & Play, I will design FOUR playable races that you can use in your games. These are going to be a lot of fun, so I hope you will enjoy playing with them as much as I am enjoying creating them! More information to follow about these later on in the project.

The next stretch goal is at the £7000 mark, and will unlock a simple and easy-to-use Campaign Builder. This will be really helpful for sketching out new settings, villains and quests for your players, especially when you don't have the time to completely build a campaign from scratch.

Don't forget to share the project with your game master friends and family, and follow us on Instagram @rollandplaybook.

Speak soon, thanks again,

Sam.
